History has known so many leaders, some of which are famous for their ruthlessness and disrespect for human life. Here’s a list of 10 of the most evil dictators history has ever known;
1. JOSEPH STALIN

He was the communist leader of the former soviet union now known as Russia. His reign started quite calmly until after the second World War where he imposed his Marxism-Leninism ideology on Russia. Millions of people died as a result of famine and starvation caused by his cruel policies. Many more perished in labor camps, were tortured or executed by his direct order. I bet the allied nations regretted ever helping him fight Hitler because after that he also went on murderous rampage against Jews and created an iron curtain separating eastern and western Europe.

2. VLAD III AKA VLAD THE IMPALER

He was the Voivode of Wallachia and the second son of VLAD Dracul. VLAD revolted against the ottoman empire after the murder of his father in 1436. In 1442, the ottoman sultan, Mehmed sent envoys ordering VLAD to pay his respects in person but VLAD arrested the emissaries and had them impaled. He also killed and tortured thousands of Turks and Bulgarians thus earning him his name. He also conquered Transylvania, murdering several Saxons thus making him the subject of the mythological character, Count Dracula. In 1447, he was killed in battle against the Ottomans.

It was also the first war to be televised live. Hussein was executed for acts of terrorism on 30 December, 2006 by the Iraqi government.

He was one of Africa’s most prolific figures and ferocious dictators. He was also known as ‘the butcher of Uganda’ and ruled from 1971 to 1979. Just as his name suggests, he persecuted certain Ugandan tribes, engaged in rampant human rights abuses, nepotism, corruption, political repression and extrajudicial killings. At some point during his rule, he even fed the dead bodies of his people to crocodiles because the graveyards were full. He tried to annex Tanzania and the Tanzanian government responded by invading Uganda and capturing their capital Kampala. Idi Amin was then exiled from the country to Saudi Arabia.

This Belgian king was known for his ruthless rule over the Free State of Congo from 1885 to 1908. His administration was characterized by several atrocities such as torture, rape, systematic brutality and murder. He is the reason why the term ‘Crimes against humanity’ was coined. His soldiers were known to cut off the hands of locals to account for every bullet they shot. His atrocities soon caught the eye of the international Community in 1908 and he was effectively dethroned by the Belgian Government.

10. ADOLF HITLER

This list would never be complete without mentioning the famous Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler. He was the Führer of Germany during the third Reich from 1934 till his death in 1945. He instigated the Second World War and ensued a scorched earth policy on the Soviet Union. He also ordered the massacre of over 6 million Jews, plus gypsies and Romani during what was called the Holocaust. People were cremated alive and babies were tossed into ovens, their remains used as fertilizers. He was also one of the most terrible invaders Europe had ever known since Napoléon Bonaparte and inevitably dented scars on nearly every region in Europe. When it was obvious that Germany had lost the war in 1945, it was alleged that Hitler killed himself and his body was burnt to prevent his enemies( the Russians) from getting a hold of it.
